Natural Selection 2 Enters Closed Beta

After a long summer of work, we've moved into closed beta!

To celebrate, we've released a 2-minute movie showing the final alien in NS2 (the Fade) who is now fully playable. After years of wanting a proper "teleport" ability, he finally got it! Check it out here: http://www.naturalselection2.com

If you've already pre-ordered any edition of NS2, just run Steam and the beta will download automatically. Otherwise, if you want to try the Fade early and support Unknown Worlds, you can pre-order to get immediate access ( http://www.naturalselection2.com ). This closed beta is limited to an additional 10,000 people.

ive got it, and its a bit dissapointing atm tbh, got some friends in the testing circle and they seem to be running around in circles a bit, its a bit more stable and less of a resource hog, but theyve yet to implement everything from the previous game that they were bringing to this one, like the heavy armour. Theyve just brought the onos and jet packs in but it still needs a faily beasty computer to run it

Gameplay footage:

Not the best player, feels like he's almost playing with a controller rather than mouse and keyboard when he's trying to track the skulks to shoot at them.

Aliens get a commander now :o And they can build walls :o

Onii :fear: Fades :fear:

It still looks like it'll be a game where the quality of your team will matter a lot. It happens to all games, yes, but I think with resources and map control being key to NS's gameplay the chance for snowballing if one team is better than the other is quite high.

Don't hate on TB :P He freely admits he's a noob. He has a commander video and alien video up too.

There were a few problems like you mention with that last game as well as :

Marines had it easier if they survived the first 2 minutes.
Aliens could win in first 30s if they all spawn rushed.
Commander of marines - if he was good he made it easy, if he was bad you lost no matter what you did.

Hopefully they'll address the balance a bit as well. Looking at the new game it still smacks of Marines pwning everyone if they last long enough to get a few res points and upgrades. And the skulks ... it's still impossible to see what's going on once you start nom nom - but they do a lot of dps. I'd prefer less dps and more easily controllable bitage.

Prob worth waiting a month to get it on the cheap if you're not in a rush.

I like it, if you played the original NS HL mod you'll be familiar with NS2 but they have iterated and it all seems very slick.

I haven't given it enough time at the moment, however, since PS2 has been taking up my gaming time !
