Its a good point about security issues. But who knows, maybe they'll have added more holes than they patched.

Its also a good point about the custom tags too. I should be able to make some enquiries with the IPB tech people before making any changes, probably just a matter of backing up and restoring a php file or 2 post install, if even that.

And yesh, new slutbox. Would be nice to see a working version first though. I'll leave the poll open a while longer to see if anyone has any more interesting views or experiences.

My personal opinion.

I don't think it needs an update. If there are cool things please post them below - would be good to understand what they actually are. Nothing above is turning me on but maybe the reality of the upgrade will make things more awesome. For the 20 or so people who visit I personally don't see the point.

In terms of the money, you should pay for it. You have full control, you should pay for it. That's what it costs. If you don't wan't to pay for it open up the control of the forums and let everyone pay. You were offered sharing before - you didn't want to do it, so you now pay for it. Fair enough, no? Your choice - and I know you haven't asked for money so again, totally fair enough. It's pittance anyway let's face it.

Personally, I think you either open it up to be a collective or you don't (FWIW I don't think a collective would work). Make a decision, based on logic and input. You should just do what you think is best - it's your cash and input.

x

I disagree with the second paragraph personally. I'd rather Dev remains in control and I chuck him some dollar than we have an elected council.

The slutbox/chat box thing. I reckon there's room for improvement.... I like a chat box idea really (well the slutbox was put forward by me so many years ago it's not shocking) but how it sits on top possibly isn't the best idea? An alternative whilst being integral plugin would be nice!

What would a new slutbox do? It seems ok to me but what features would be in a new one?

I have slutbox open in one window and forum open in another. Hardly anyone uses the forum anyway.

edit: and to prove it I made a thread about an unseen HIGNFY thing with Saville this afternoon and it still has no views. NO VIEWS.

I'll try and find a site with the updated slutbox.

The views thing is bollocks - Snafu said the same thing a few weeks back. Ive been to the JS thread twice so why it's not registering a view is beyond me.

With regards to what I said in the second paragraph - the money is pretty much not even worth speaking about. If Dev wants to run the site personally, as an individual, I'm all for it. I think that's the best way too, he does and has always done a great job. I don't really see why anyone else should pay for it though and I don't think Dev is asking anyone to.

Whether he has asked or not is irrelevant I like this place and would gladly contribute. I dunno why you want to open it up to everyone really but fair play if that's what you want.

Is that what you want cos that's what'll happen.

I don't. I did a few years back but there's not much point now.

Edit: read this whole thing again, I don't mean to sound bitter as I am not. Dev is an awesome steward of the forums (and a great guy) and does a brill job. All I meant was that It's only £100 and Dev is the admin so it's his responsibility. I don't think anyone else should pay for the forums other than those in control of them.

Nah. We all elect folk to run things on our behalf because they can do it better than us.

I would like that.

Are the forums slow for everyone or is it just me? Pages take an age to load, and slutbox takes a minute or so to process whatever is typed.

You should have an "opt out button" on this forum. So that way if you are sick of a place you don't have to hand it off to someone else so they can change everything for you. And you really can't have a change of mind when you do so. :P BTW if you do indeed have one, can you tell me how as I am totally clueless on where the "no return exit is" Thanks. That is my suggestion so that way if peeps just happen to come here and feel incline to exit cause you guys are not very welcome to outsiders, they can do so.
