So, I think he has been great, or even world class, over his career.

Check out his stats:

He mightn't control the game in the way a Gerrard might do, but his goals speak for themselves - an exceptional record. Has anyone in the Premier League had as good a record? He is the midfielder with the most goals in the history of the Premier League.

He is a "good" midfield player - does all the right things well - passion, passing, workrate etc - but not exceptional. But he scores goals - lots of them, which shouldn't be overlooked. After all, this is the most important thing in the game. To me this makes his great or even world class. He scores more than most forwards and still does his midfield role.

Central to Chelsea for a decade - multiple league titles, FA cup wins, England caps (23 goals with 90 caps) and now CL winning captain.

How can anyone argue that Lampard isn't at least a great player?

You would have to be an idiot, surely?

Agree with Bullet - like the guy a lot, enjoy watching him play when he's on his game, but he was never as polished as Gerrard. However, he's kept it going and still plays consistently well over a season (throw in the odd mare of a game, but as Sticks would say 'that's football).
