Maybe you should delete more shit. I used to be like that with DVD and CD but now I couldn't give a shit. I mean, 8tb...thats more than a lot of 500 million turnover companies.

!

8TB really isn't much. My 1.5ish TB of storage is starting to buckle under the strain slowly. Still got a couple of hundred gigs left...

BUT ITS OKAY BECAUSE I DELETE THINGS I NO LONGER WANT!

:-)

In 10 years time, you'll be on TV because people will be digging you out of your newspaper stack lined house, you Disposophobe!

That's possibly true which is why I have a cleaner :)

I also keep building new buildings to store more stuff. True story.

Phil employs a 10-year old as his cleaner. Also his room is lined with empty beer cans, not newspapers. :D

I think what he means is that the NAS runa a service which can download stuff, while your Pc is shutdown.
My Netgear NAS has different services that can do that, which is nice if you don't want your pc to run over night.

Exactly this, you can download from a torrent or nzb directly onto the NAS without your PC being on. I'm fairly sure you can also set them up to download new stuff as its posted using RSS feeds.

Or you could build your own and do the same with free Nas, don't get me wrong, synology and QNAP devices are great, but they're pricey!

Isn't it racialist if you have a cleaner that's not racially aligned with you?

I bought a 2TB ZyXEL NAS drive at the start of the year. Primarily coz my PC was running out of space and was noisy. I wanted it to stream via the Xbox.

It worked quite well for a time, crashed a bit and the god damn database needs to be refreshed alot. But now all new torrents are MP4's which most wont work via xbox, and the avi's named AFG crash the nasdrive (or xbox) all the time.

Now im wondering about a media player to take the xbox out of the equation if that would help. Anyone recommend a media player that would stream mp4s from the nas drive to a HD TV

Hmm good question. My years of working in IT killed my interest in IT.

Off the shelf jobby to be honest.

Well, thing is - if you want to keep it *super* simple there are options these days. What I would recommend would be a machine with enough room for plenty of drives and doing software raid. Proper hardware raid would be silly expensive to do right and then whack on Ubuntu - which is easy as hell to get your head around. If in doubt, ask! I can tell you now if you come on here asking Linux questions and "how do I do this" - you'll get an answer from me at least.

But if you wanted to compromise, you could always get one without any drives in and then just scale it up as you go?? i.e

http://www.scan.co.u...d-array-das-box

http://www.scan.co.u...gbit-lan-pc-mac

Start about 200-300 for the machine and then drop 100 a go whenever you need an extra terabyte?

Snafu do you have current links for something like you linked before?

Is a cleaner essentially a MAID? I have an OCD so being a maid myself is a good thing. LOL >.<
