Slow Friday afternoon at work and I came across this:

http://www.therepopulation.com/

It really does look like Starwars Galaxies, but with the starwars bits taken out. I mean even down to the UI.

Sounds interesting and they claim they are looking for a 2013 release, so its probably only a couple of years away from an actual release ;)

Just thought, with the amount of guys we had in SWG and the fact that people still bring it up with fond memories, others may find it interesting.

Can't imagine much content being added. If people play it in a very casual manner it could be okay.
Sadly, I doubt it will be much good.

Plus it is a pay for items/unlocks. This could cripple it if there is limited content, combined with char/class slots being purchasable.

I seriously think the day of the MMORPG is finished until the current flash in the pan + 3 months subs model dies.

9 million WoW players still seem to think otherwise.

I would love to bring back the days of SWG when we were all in our early twenties. Sitting wasting the days away dancing as a sexy char and chatting up blokes to get tips. on the odd chance to get a holocron to become a jedi. On reflection I should of got them Uni quali's.

Yip, that is what made it fun really.
Messing about, casually going hunting with others without real purpose. None of this, looking what drops where and farming it.
Being scared to enter the Narglatch caves, then getting our asses handed to us. Camping. Even making lil fishing shops and spending ages trying to move furniture 10 pixels to the right.

If that can be recreated, I'm up for it.

I have just been reading up on the game (thanks for the link chris) and i must admit i like it a lotttttt (insert Jim Carey voice).
It also seems like the developers is taking a lot of the good stuff from other MMO's and especially from SWG ! (yay).

There are a lot of things in the game that will make me want to pick it up and try it out.

- Manual and structured harvesting (remember those miners harvesting those sweet resources while you do other stuff?)
- Crafting (seem to have the SWG depth innit, plus new stuff)
- Pets (bio pets and tamed pets)
- PvE (a lot of new stuff here, looks great)
- Skills ( a very deep and broad skill system)
- Player cities + housing (hell yah)
- Vehicles (with room for your mates)

They really seem to have been looking at SWG a bit, and even mentioned the game when talking about different aspects of their game, and having them mention "SWG - pre CU" means they know what was good and bad about SWG.

That's really my point though. Even Ultima Online and DaoC still have a loyal fan base but nothing new ever seems to last. Mostly cos they've all been shit.
