Is this scenario paranoid nonsense, plausible or definitely what's happening?

So GTA Online is probably under more stress than any other multiplayer ever? (Is it?) Stands to reason if it's the biggest selling entertainment product of all time? Or maybe only 20 per cent of players ever go online? Fuck knows.

Anyway, to play it properly you have to do about 3 hand-holding missions and you can't get on to the real game until these are done. Currently it's creating a huge bottle-neck for new players and it seems like a sneaky kind of server queue. Sneaky because MMO's will give you a time-frame and admit it's a queue rather than "unprecedented demand". And the smoothness of the experience once actually past "the queue" is suspicious.

This has obviously been done to keep entry to the servers to a trickle?

I'm not ranting btw. I got on first day, but I've obviously seen the tantrums.

Hand-holding missions?

It seems like the demand would be predictable; I wouldn't be surprised if the bean-counters consider the cost of having enough servers for an initial surge as a pointless expense since they'd probably be underused in a month or so.

Yeah the begining of GTA online is like singleplayer at first. After a full intro sequence an NPC guides you through a race and a job. Other people can do it co-op with you but you HAVE to do them to get access to free-roam.

I thought I saw you at lvl 4 ingame a few days ago. Have you not done them?

Nah, just single player so far. Going to finish the story before heading online.

Tried Online this evening, created my char and went through the intro sequence, got to the race where it said it was looking for other players, left that for about 15 minutes before giving up.

Finished the single player main story this evening, hopefully the bottlenecks get sorted soon, or i'll have to start replaying the SP sooner than i expected :P

I just ordered it and only now realise that my xbox only has 8gig storage, almost all of which is already gone. The Rockstar website says 16gig minimum, so can I just use the external USB HDD I already have as storage for xbox, or do I need to create a partition or something to do that?

edit: I did try the Xbox info but they just recommend using the official flash drive or the official HDD which I'd rather not do if it can be avoided.

Pretty sure a generic external would be fine

well this is all going tits up. Apparently I need to make a new partition on my usb drive so that the xbox recognises it. I opened the partition manager in windows 7 and that didn't really explain anything so I googled and installed EaseUs partition manager, and that still isn't helping me. I'm terrified I am about to delete everything on my usb drive. God fucking damn it.

Blimey, who would have thought a sticky post would coincide with the last time my wife and I could be intimate without an argument.
