The Teamwork Commands:
Day of Defeat includes some simple binds that automatically do certain features, like present your location or health rather than you having to type it out. You include these commands in regular chat, you simple have to enter chat mode (default y or u) and type one of the below commands to get the desired function.

%h = Gives you your current health.

%c = Gives you your current class.

%l = Gives you your current location.

%i = Gives you the last person you identified with your crosshair.

%t = Gives the health of the last person you identified.

Why Bother?
These might not look much but they help a lot with communication if you don't know exactly where you are or you can't be bothered using voice comms. Very useful for requesting back up or as part of a 'nade bind.

The following are examples of the commands in action:

bind "X" "say_team Enemies at %l, [H: %h]. Requesting backup!"
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: Enemies at The Bridge, [H: 32]. Requesting backup!

bind "X" "say_team On my way, to requested position!"
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: On my way, to requested position!

bind "X" "say_team Need Ammo at %l please. I am a %c."
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: Need Ammo at the bridge please. I am a Machine Gunner.

bind "X" "say_team Covering you %i, you have [%r] health."
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: Covering you Private, you have [67] health.

Direct Commands for Voice Messages & Hand Signals:
Ever been fumbling about navigating for a voice command whilst under pressure? I know I have when a nade flies over my head and I need to warn my team mates. The following is a list of commands you can use directly in a bind to one key to activate the in-game voice message:

Voice Commands:
voice_ceasefire
voice_usegrens
voice_moveupmg
voice_mgahead
voice_enemybehind
voice_enemyahead
voice_gogogo
voice_assault
voice_displace
voice_areaclear
voice_fireleft
voice_fireright
voice_fireinhole
voice_negative
voice_coverflanks
voice_sticktogether
voice_spreadout
voice_dropguns
voice_takecover
voice_backup
voice_needammo
voice_medic
voice_hold
voice_right
voice_left
voice_yessir
voice_grenade
voice_flank
voice_cover
voice_fallback
voice_attack
voice_sniper

Hand Signals:
signal_enemyspotted
signal_spreadout
signal_holdposition
signal_takecover
signal_coveringfire
signal_areaclear
signal_flankright
signal_moveout
signal_flankleft
signal_grenade
signal_enemyleft
signal_enemyright
signal_backup
signal_sniper
signal_yes
signal_no
signal_fallback
signal_sticktogether

All of which are pretty self explanitory. Now we can use our text based commands with our voice commands so that our whole team knows what we need but those closest to us get a direct audio message. Below are some examples:

bind "X" "say_team TAKE COVER! [Grenade at %l] !; voice_grenade"
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: TAKE COVER! [Grenade at the bridge] !
(VOICE)Lt.Squirrel: Grenade!

bind "X" "say_team Need Ammo at %l please.; voice_needammo"
Would say in game: (Team)Lt.Squirrel: Need Ammo at the bridge please.
(VOICE)Lt.Squirrel: Need Ammo!

DoD Specific Commands:

_ah "0/1"
0 turns off the help messages, 1 for the helpful dog to re-appear.
cl_corpsestay "X"
Corpses staying after death has made it's way into DoD. The number can be anything. The smaller the shorter they stay, however.
cl_identiconmode "0/1/2"
0 turns off over head identification sprites. 1 only identifies people whilst crosshair is over them. 2 puts identification sprites on constantly.
cl_particlefx "0/1/2"
0 turns off all the weather and special effects (rain, snow, smoke). 1 does not show rain and snow, smoke still shows. 2 shows everything.
cl_dynamiclights "0/1"
Setting to 0 turns off dynamic lights generated by weapons and grenades.
cl_autoreload "0/1"
Setting to 0 disables all auto reloading.

DoD: Source Specific Commands:

cl_showhelp "0"
0 turns off the help messages, 1 for the helpful messages just below the crosshair to re-appear.
cl_identiconmode "0/1/2"
0 turns off over head identification sprites. 1 only identifies people whilst crosshair is over them. 2 puts identification sprites on constantly.
cl_autoreload "0/1"
Setting to 0 disables all auto reloading.
cl_downloadfilter "nosounds"
Stops sound files like "Headshot" & "Unstoppable" being downloaded from the server and thus played on your client.

Tips 'n' Tricks
Grenades & "Priming"
You might be used to having just one option for throwing grenades in other mods, namely pulling the pin and throwing over arm at the desired location. Day of Defeat has two options at your disposal. The first is the regular over arm throw which is activated by the primary fire key. The second is an under arm throw or rather roll, this method does not go nearly as far as the first but is useful for when an enemy might be just around the corner. This method is activated by the secondary fire key.

Day of Defeat has a somewhat unique feature to do with grenades. You can actually pick up and throw back enemy grenades to try and kill them. To do this look at the enemy nade and press the "Use" key (default E), then try to throw the nade at the enemy, if not just away from your person as it will go off very soon.

As you may or may not know there is no way to "prime" or "cook" your grenade in your hands so that it explodes sooner therefore not giving your enemies a chance to scarper. There is, however, a way of priming a grenade but it does leave you vunerable at times and requires a good sense of timing.

1. Select your 'nade, throw it at your feet.
2. Look at the 'nade, pick it up with your "Use" key.
3. Wait however long you dare and throw at desired location, be careful though, primed 'nades do not go as far as normal ones.
4. Feel a warm glow inside when you kill a pesky sniper/MG or wipe out half their team.

Notes: Grenades have a fuse of 5 seconds, priming nades at the start of a round to throw at choke points can really devestate the oppisite team.

At the start of a new round you will know certain choke points will have a lot of enemies rushin towards them. You really need to get a primed nade in there to wipe out the first wave but the above method means you usually have to stop, as throwing the nade over arm ahead of you will probably go too far. What you really need to do is use the grenade secondary function to roll it ahead of you as follows:

1. Select an area before the choke point that has a nice straight area.
2. Keep running and ROLL the 'nade ahead of you.
3. Look down and pick up the 'nade with your "Use" key.
4. Throw the 'nade pretty sharpish as the nade has been 'released' some seconds ago and it has to travel to the desired place.
5. Count the dead bodies from your perfectly thrown in motion primed 'nade!

Font Fixing:
Notice: If you cannot see chat text then: DoD does not seem to like working with custom Steam skins. Revert to the defualt green Steam skin and that should make your text appear again if it did not appear when you typed a message and nothing came up.

A lot of people have commented on the huge/bad text for DoD. You can alter this by doing the following:

1. Bring up console
2. Typing on cl_hudfont followed by 0, 1 or 2.

0 is smallest, 2 is largest.

Oh dear Squizz, is there a way to bind a hand signal and a voice command to the one key? So I could shout 'GRENADE!!!!' and do that funky 'grenade' hand signal all at once?

It would benefit noone, but it would make me happy if there was!

Treat the voice_ and signal_ commands like normal commands such as +attack, wait or weapon_. So you can use them in a long alias, if you so wish. You could have one as follows:

bind "X" "say_team TAKE COVER! [Grenade at %l] !; voice_grenade; signal_grenade"

Try in console

find weapon
or
find switch

That will find all the commands with that word in them. It should be in normal options aswell... not sure.

I can't see why Squix hasn't been more helpful here. This is clearly his thread of 'Uber DoD help in ALL areas'!

Come on man. Resat, or not!?
